Popular Doesn’t Always Mean Good Fit!

For the 29th year in a row, Canada’s own Labrador Retriever takes the top spot followed by the Golden Retriever and the German Shepherd. The French Bulldog steps up to the number four spot and the Poodle takes fifth.

  1. Labrador Retriever
  2. Golden Retriever
  3. German Shepherd
  4. French Bulldog
  5. Poodle – standard – miniature – toy
  6. Australian Shepherd
  7. Havanese
  8. Shetland Sheepdog
  9. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  10. Portuguese Water Dog

The charming Cavalier King Charles Spaniel makes its first appearance on the Top Ten list, coming in ninth. The Cavaliers have been recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club since 1957 and are known for their gentle and affectionate nature.

A reminder to those looking to add a puppy to their home: Just because a breed is popular does not mean it is the right fit for every home. If you or someone you know is looking to add a dog to their home, I’d be excited to help explore breed options, breeders, and answer any other questions. I often work with families well before a new puppy arrives in the home setting the everyone up for success from day 1!
